Great location, lovely roof top bar!

Hotel is centrally located to walk everywhere in Funchal. You're in a walking only area but it's a short block to catch any taxi or tour pick up. It's away from the over touristy old town & busy main streets. The roof top bar/garden/dining area is very pretty & provides a great view of the ocean, town & mountains - don't miss the free Fado entertainment on Wednesday night. Breakfast is amazing with many options including delicious fresh fruits (as a bonus, the breakfast staff is super nice).

Nothing but if we had a complaint it would be the odd see-thru glass bathroom where we had to put towels against shower door to prevent floor getting wet! A minor issue.

Location, staff, breakfast - all great

Great location in the heart of the city, just minutes away from the main street where the buses run (including the aerobus to/from airport). Lovely and helpful staff. Quite some choices (sweet and savory) for breakfast. Lovely design in the reception area as well as the rooftop terrace.

There is no spa and the pool is very small hence i would say calling the hotel a “spa” is misleading. You can make appointment for massages thought. Having the room on the first floor (next to the elevator) you could hear all the street noises plus the incoming/ongoing guests by elevator.

Fantastic setting and public spaces Breakfast was stupendous Super friendly staff Roof top bar also very impressive for sunrise or sunset

The mattress was really hard which made my back hurt (it’s twingy already though), people were careless and shut their doors loudly, and the rooms could do with a bit of an update (particularly the showers)

Lovely hotel in center of Funchal. Staff and customer service excellent! The breakfast had lots of options including a couple of delicious gluten free pastries. I will stay here again!

Couple 2-night getaway

Tasty and varied breakfast. The room was nice and spacious enough and the glass walled bathroom is... Interesting! We slept very well, very comfortable beds! There's a nice and very decorated rooftop where you can enjoy a free drink if you've booked through Booking.com and enjoy the views of city, mountain and ocean. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Didn't have that much storage room for clothes. They have a parking agreement with a parking lot around 5-minute walking distance, which is nice to have in that very difficult to park town, but you have to pay for the daily ticket anyway.

Beautiful hotel in an amazing location!

We absolutely loved this hotel! It's so unique and very centrally located; you can walk to most attractions in Funchal from here. We got to Madeira late and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. The bottom floor of the hotel is a restaurant and a boutique with very cool products to buy. The rooftop bar is highly ranked across Europe and they have Fado every Wednesday. Amenities in the room are exceptional and the beds were really comfortable too! Parking in Funchal is not ideal, but this hotel is perfect for pedestrian sightseeing. There are several car rental companies nearby as well.

Great localisation, amazing people on the reception, nice bar on the roof, comfortable beds. It was nice to see a short note directed to us :)

Breakfast could be better and there was water gathering in the bath hence when you was entering it you were in small puddle.

My home in Funchal, Madeira.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at SBH. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a very comfortable room-comfortable bed and good pillows. The breakfast was fantastic. They start serving breakfast at 7:30am so you have time to eat before heading out to your pickup point if you booked a day trip. The hotel decor is fun, colourful, and artistic. The sitting area on the main floor is a nice place to relax, the rooftop bar has a nice view with good bar service, and the restaurant served good food.. I tried the swordfish dish for dinner. Hope to visit Madeira again and stay at SBH.

Perfect stay to start the trip

Excellent location and a beautiful rooftop terrace bar with a wonderful view. Located right in the centre of old town. Amazing breakfast, wide variety of veggies, eggs, fresh fruits, cakes… We parked at Parque de Estacionamento Almirante Reis as the hotel has discounted parking tickets for this garage.

Amazing experience! Totally worth it

The hotel is beautiful, at a very good location near many shops and amenities. The room was big, the bed was huge and comfortable with different pillows to choose from. We were even upgraded to a deluxe room for free which we highly appreciated. They have a roof top bar with incredible views good coctails and nice food. All single members of staff really impressed us more than anything though. They are professional and over and above helpful and kind always willing to assist with a smile. Loved it and would definately come back when in Madeira
